Birmingham Sportshall League Round One. 14th October 2017

Saturday Oct 14th started Tamworth AC’s season of Sportshall athletics at North Solihull Sports Centre. In spite of there being a very small team due to various other events over the weekend the club had some good results.

U15 girls Hannah Evans and Amy Cook came 1st in the 8 lap paarlauf with a time of 115.9secs.

The U13 girls Lottie McLaren and Angelica Rakmee ran in the 4 lap with times of 53.4 and 58.3 secs and also in the 2 lap race with times of 25.8 and 27.5 secs respectively.

The U11 girls team Evie Taylor, Lottie Evans Sofia Farmer ,Ashton Adcock ,Harriett Livingstone and Freya Cole added some more good results with Ashton and Sofia coming 2nd in the 2×1 lap relay with 27 secs and Ashton came 1st in the soft javelin with a throw of 12m.

The U11 boys were the biggest team consisting of Finley Reeves, Braedan Walsh O’ Neill, William Newman, Jacob Fletcher, Samuel Williams, Alfie Sippetts, Adam Stokes and Jacob Williams. The 2×1 lap team of Braedan and Jacob Williams came 2nd.

All the teams fought hard against some good opposition from Solihull and Small Heath, Birchfield Harriers Halesowen and Sutton Coldfield athletics clubs.

The next meeting is to be held on 18th November.

UK Sportshall Final – Manchester Sport City 22nd April 2017

The Final of the UK Indoor Sportshall Competition took place at the weekend with 67 athletes from 11 Counties of the UK taking part at the remarkable stadium facilities at Machester’s Sport City.

Three athletes from Tamworth AC were chosen to take part in the Birmingham Team. Lucy Wheeler, Lauren Swindell and Eve Clawley from Tamworth were joined by Iris Oliarnyk from Halesowen A & CC, Lauren Bowman from Birchfield Harriers and Mary Takwoingi from Solihull and Small Heath AC.

Competition was fierce with the Birmingham squad up against the best athletes in the UK. Nevertheless the Birmingham team gave a good account of themselves finishing 3rd in the team competition.

Lucy Wheeler was equal 6th in the 2 Lap race, 9th in the shot and equal 9th in the Vertical Jump. She was the highest placed Tamworth athlete finishing 13th in the individual competition.

Congratulations are in order for the U15 National Speed Bounce Champion Lauren Swindell (well known for her speed bounce speciality) who came equal 1st in the speed bounce with a huge 88 bounces in 30secs winning the Gold Medal. Lauren came equal 24th in the 4 lap race and finished 39th in the Standing Long Jump. Lucy and Lauren were joined by Lauren Bowman and Iris Oliarnyk in the 2 x 4  lap Relay finishing equal 4th

Eve Clawley was equal 10th in the 4 lap race, equal 17th in the vertical jump and equal 32nd in the Shot. Eve also took part in the 8 lap Paarlauf with Mary Takwoingi finishing in 4th place.

All the athletes are now looking forward to a summer of track and field in the various league competitions.

Sportshall Regional Finals, North Solihull Sports Centre January 2017 and 5th March2017

Six athletes from Tamworth Athletics Club joined Team Birmingham at the Sportshall Regional Finals against teams from Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Shropshire and Hereford and Worcester over the last two months.

Tom Reid from Tamworth Athletics Club was in the U11 Birmingham boys team at the “Fun In Athletics Sportshall” finals in January in the Standing Long Jump, jumping 1.75m. Tom also competed in the 2×2 lap relay coming 1st and finally ran in the 4×1 relay and the Grand Prix relay. Overall the u11 boys won the “Fun in Athletics”

In the U13 girls on Sunday at the Regional Finals Amy Cook came home with the gold medal for her throw of 8.64m in the shot and 3rd place in the 8 lap paarlauf.

Isla Crameri jumped 6.28m in the standing triple jump to come home with a bronze medal and then gained gold in 4×1 lap relay with her Birmingham team mates.

Abi Hamer came 7th in her 6 lap race and 8th in the speed bounce with 67.bounces

The girls narrowly missed out on representing the West Midlands at the National Finals in April.

Two Tamworth AC athletes were in the team for u15 girls.

Lucy Wheeler took gold in her 2 lap race in a time of 22.9secs and she won the.silver medal in the vertical jump with 66cms and then took 5th place in the shot with a throw of 8.78m. She also came 2nd in the 4×2 lap relay with her Birmingham team mates

Lucy then took 3rd place in the all rounder competition.

Lauren Swindell was Tamworth AC’s 2nd athlete to take part in the u15 all rounder competition coming a very credible 10th overall. She was 5th in her 4 lap race with 50.9secs, 3rd in the speed bounce with 85 bounces and 13th in the vertical jump with a jump of 44cms.

Lucy and Lauren now go to the National Finals in Manchester in April with the rest of the u15 girls from Team Birmingham who will be representing the West Midlands.

Tamworth Athletes shine at “Vault Manchester” 21st January 2017

The first event of the prestigious Vault Britain 2017 series took place last weekend at Sportcity, Manchester and saw over 100 athletes compete in the Pole Vault Event across 9 competition pools.

The pools ranged from the elite men and women going for new heights and a place at the commonwealth games in 2018 to mixed pools with club athletes from across the UK.

Tamworth were well represented with 3 athletes competing in Pool 6, this was a mixed pool of Seniors, Under 20, Under 17, Under15 and Under 13 Men and Women. With a total of twenty athletes in Pool 6 it proved to be very competitive and a hard fought contest.

The Tamworth AC Athletes were Iona Crameri (U17), Siân Hubbard (U15) and Ruby Coldwell (U13). Coached by Adam Lyons and mentored by Elizabeth Edden, one of the best senior women’s Pole Vaulters in the UK, all achieved personal bests as did the all the athletes coached by Adam in Pool 6.

The large crowd enjoyed a fantastic competition lasting almost 3 hours with Siân Hubbard winning the Pool with a new personal best vault of 2.40m, Iona Crameri finishing second with a new personal best of 2.30m and Ruby Coldwell clearing 2.00m in her first ever competition.

The series now moves on to London in February before finishing in Cardiff in March. With the entire season to look forward to, greater heights and new records beckon for the Tamworth Athletes.

Under 11 Girls

Olivia Wileman was 5th in the 1 lap in 15.7secs, 5th in the Chest Push with a push of 4m and 3rd in the long jump with a jump of 1.92m

Angelica Rakmee came 5th in the Triple Jump A with a jump of 4.64m

Saoirse Au was 1st in the Vertical Jump, jumping 50cms

Ruby Coldwell came 4th in the Long Jump B with a jump of 1.64m

Saoirse Au and Ruby Coldwell came 2nd in the 2 x 2 Lap A in 52.5ecs

Braedon Walsh came 3rd in the Long Jump B with a jump of 1.52m

Jacob Williams came 4th in Triple Jump A with a jump of 4.84m and 4th in Vertical Jump A with a jump of 38cms

William Newman came 4th in the Chest Push A with a push of 3.25m and 5th in the Vertical Jump B with a jump of 18cms

Braeden Walsh and Oisin Au came 4th in the 2 x 1 Relay B in 26.8secs

William Newman and Jacob Williams came 3rd in the 6 lap Paarlauf in 89.5secs

Oisin and Tom came 2nd in the 2 x 2 Lap A in 54.0secs

Jacob and Braeden came 3rd in the 2 x 2 Lap B in 56.9 secs

Oran Au came 3rd in the 4 Lap A in 52.9secs, 4th in the 2 lap A in 25.6secs and 5th in the Long Jump with a jump of 1.66m

Kai Buckley came 3rd in the 4 Lap B in 55.3secs, 5th in the 6 Lap in 96.2 secs and 4th in the Triple Jump with a jump of 5.28m

Under 13 Girls

Amy Cook came 3rd in the 4 Lap A in 54.5secs, 5th in the Long Jump A with a jump of 1.72m and 2nd in the Shot Putt A with a putt of 7.92m

Ellie Gauntlett came 4th in the 4 lap B in 61.5 secs, 4th in the Speed Bounce A with 61 bounces and 4th in the Long Jump B with a jump of 1.64m

Abi Hamer came 2nd in the 6 Lap in 87.1secs, 1st in the Triple Jump B with a jump of 6.06m and 1st in the Triple Jump B with a jump of 6.06m

Isla Crameri came 4th in the 2 lap A in 25.2secs, 1st in the Triple Jump A with a jump of 6.32m and 4th in the Shot Putt B with a putt of 5.01m

Beth Winstone came 4th in the 2 lap B in 26.4secs, and 3rd in the Vertical Jump B with a jump of 35cms

Ellie Gauntlett and Beth Winstone came 3rd in the 8 lap Paarlauf in 110.7secs

Abi Hamer, Amy Cook, Ellie Gauntlett and Isla Crameri came 3rd in the 4 x 2 Relay in 104.1secs

Under 15 Girls

Hannah Evans came 11th in the 2 lap in 26.0secs  and 12th in the Long jump with a jump of 1.69m and 7th in the Shot Putt with putt of 6.59m

Eve Clawley came 3rd in the 4 lap in 51.8secs, 5th in the Vertical Jump with a jump of 47cms and 6th in the Speed Bounce with 74 bounces

Lauren Swindell came 4th in the 4 lap in 52.3secs, 6th in the Long Jump with a jump of 1.94m, and 1st in the Speed Bounce with an amazing 90 bounces

Lucy Wheeler was the star of the night once again with a breath taking all round performance. She came 1st in the 2 Lap in 23.0 secs, 1st in Vertical Jump with a jump of 62cms and 2nd in the Shot Putt with putt of 8.83m.  Lucy rounded off her successes with a 1st in the 8 lap Paarlauf with team mate Lauren Swindell in 102.1secs.

With one more match to go, Lucy is now in a prime position to take the 1st place in the Under 15 Girls individual competition.

The final Sportshall match is on 11th February

Birmingham Sportshall League Match 2 Saturday 12th November 2016

 

Tamworth AC had another great event at the 2nd meeting of the Birmingham Sportshall League.

The U11b team comprised Tom Reid, James Wilkes, Toby Wootton, Oisin Au, William Newman and Jacob Williams

Tom was 2nd in the 1 lap race in 12.6secs.  He was also 2nd in the long jump with a jump of 1.82m. He completed the hat trick of 2nd places in the 2 x 2 lap race with team mate James in a time of 51.1 secs.

In the 2×1 lap race Oisin and James came 2nd in 25.8secs

Toby Wootton came 3rd in the chest push with 5.50m , then  the 4×1 relay team of Jacob, Tom,  James and Toby finished 2nd in 51.7 secs

Oisin Au came 2nd in speed bounce with 45 bounces

The U11g team comprised Ruby Coldwell, Kirsten McLaren, Angelica Rakmee, Saoirse Au and Freya Cole In the 6 lap paarlauf of Angelica and Saoirse came 2nd in 81.6 secsThe 4×1 relay team of Freya, Saoirse, Kirsten and Ruby  finished 3rd in 53.2 secs

The U13b team of Kai  Buckley and Oran Au came 3rd in the 8 lap paarlauf with 107.7 secs and Kai took 2nd in the shotput with a putt of 5.78m

The U13g team comprised Sian Hubbard, Beth Winstone, Emily Pearce, Amy Cook, Abi Hamar, Maddison Rose Blencowe, Tegan Vickery and Ellie Gauntlett

Amy was 1st in her 4 lap race with 54.8secs and 3rd in the shot putt with a putt of 6.96m

Abi was 1st in 6 lap race with 87.5secs and 2nd in triple jump with 5.76m

Sian Hubbard came 2nd in vertical jump with 44cm

Several of the above youngsters had also taken part in the inter-county cross country champs earlier on in the day.

The U15g team comprised of Lucy Wheeler, Lauren Swindell, Katie Stretton , Sophie Perry, Charlotte Perry and Hannah Evans

Lucy Wheeler is still leading the under 15 all-rounder event at the end of the evening. Winning her 2 lap race in 22.4 secs, she was 1st in vertical jump with 62cms and 2nd in the shot putt. Lauren Swindell won the speed bounce with 89 bounces. Then Lucy and Lauren went on to win the 8 lap paarlauf in 99.9secs

Tamworth held onto some good placings against Solihull and Small Heath, Birchfield Harriers Sutton Coldfield and Halesowen AC.

1st 2016 – 17 Birmingham Sportshall meeting

There was a fantastic turnout for the 1st sportshall meeting of the season with thirty two athletes many of them competing at the Sportshall for the first time but doing an excellent job scoring team points for Tamworth AC

Saoirse Au in the U11G team came 3rd in the 1 lap with a time of 13.4secs and Ruby Coldwell came 2nd in the long jump with a jump of 1.78m. Team mates in the U11G were Molly Taunton, Kirsten Mclaren and Freya Cole all scoring valuable points.

In theU11B team Tom Reid, James Wilkes, Toby Wootton, Oliver Aston  and Jacob Williams all gave fantastic performances with Tom Reid coming 1st in his 1 lap race with a time of 12.5secs. In the 2 x1 lap race  James and Toby came in 3rd with 26.8secs and the 2×2 lap race of Tom and James coming 1st with a time of 51.2 secs.  James also came 3rd in his vertical jump with 41cms and Toby 2nd in his vertical jump with 40cms. In the 6 lap paarlauf Oliver and Jacob were 3rd and the 4×1 relay team came 3rd with a time of 54secs.

Ellie Gauntlett

The U13G (finishing 2nd overall on the night) had the biggest team with the circuit relay team of Ellie Gauntlett, Tegan Vickery, Madison Rose Blencowe and Isla Crameri coming 3rd with a time 83.7secs..

The 4×2 lap relay team of  Abi Hamer, Amy Cook, Sian Hubbard and Emily Pearce came 3rd with a time of 54.1secs.

Emily Pearce came 2nd in her 4 lap race in a time of 54.1secs. Emily also came 3rd in the speed bounce with a score of 71

Abi Hamer came 2nd in her 6 lap race with a time 86.5secs and also came 3rd in her 2 lap race in 25.7secs. Amy Cook came 3rd in her 2 lap race with a time of 26.1secs she then went on to take 1st place in the shot with a throw of 7.56 metres.

Isla Crameri came 2nd in both the long jump and the triple jump with 2.06m and 6.24m

In the U13B team of Kai Buckley, Oran Au, Daniel Aston and James Stretton, James came 2nd in the speed bounce with a score of 80. All the boys scoring valuable points for Tamworth AC

Lucy Wheeler

In the U15G team Lucy Wheeler had an outstanding evening finishing with a personal score of 118 points coming 1st in the all-rounder event on the night…She took 1st place in the 2 lap race with 23.0secs, 1st place in the vertical jump with 57cms and the 2nd place in the shot with a throw of 8.86 metres.She then went onto take 1st place in 8 lap paarlauf with Lauren Swindell. Lauren took 1st place in the speed bounce with a score of 88. Sophie Perry, Katie Stretton, Hannah Evans and Charlotte Perry made up the rest of the U15G team adding valuable points to the Tamworth AC score.

Tim Li

The U15B were Tim Li and Dan Cartwright. Tim came 3rd in the long Jump with a jump of 2.32m and in the shot he took 3rd place with a putt of 8.94m. Dan took 1st in the 4 lap race with 46.6secs and in the long jump he had a jump of 2.22m. Together in the paarlauf they took 1st place with a time of 99.9secs.  Both athletes finished in the top 8 overall for the evening.
