Six athletes from Tamworth Athletics Club joined Team Birmingham at the Sportshall Regional Finals against teams from Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Shropshire and Hereford and Worcester over the last two months.
Tom Reid from Tamworth Athletics Club was in the U11 Birmingham boys team at the “Fun In Athletics Sportshall” finals in January in the Standing Long Jump, jumping 1.75m. Tom also competed in the 2×2 lap relay coming 1st and finally ran in the 4×1 relay and the Grand Prix relay. Overall the u11 boys won the “Fun in Athletics”
In the U13 girls on Sunday at the Regional Finals Amy Cook came home with the gold medal for her throw of 8.64m in the shot and 3rd place in the 8 lap paarlauf.
Isla Crameri jumped 6.28m in the standing triple jump to come home with a bronze medal and then gained gold in 4×1 lap relay with her Birmingham team mates.
Abi Hamer came 7th in her 6 lap race and 8th in the speed bounce with 67.bounces
The girls narrowly missed out on representing the West Midlands at the National Finals in April.
Two Tamworth AC athletes were in the team for u15 girls.
Lucy Wheeler took gold in her 2 lap race in a time of 22.9secs and she won the.silver medal in the vertical jump with 66cms and then took 5th place in the shot with a throw of 8.78m. She also came 2nd in the 4×2 lap relay with her Birmingham team mates
Lucy then took 3rd place in the all rounder competition.
Lauren Swindell was Tamworth AC’s 2nd athlete to take part in the u15 all rounder competition coming a very credible 10th overall. She was 5th in her 4 lap race with 50.9secs, 3rd in the speed bounce with 85 bounces and 13th in the vertical jump with a jump of 44cms.
Lucy and Lauren now go to the National Finals in Manchester in April with the rest of the u15 girls from Team Birmingham who will be representing the West Midlands.
