The first event of the prestigious Vault Britain 2017 series took place last weekend at Sportcity, Manchester and saw over 100 athletes compete in the Pole Vault Event across 9 competition pools.
The pools ranged from the elite men and women going for new heights and a place at the commonwealth games in 2018 to mixed pools with club athletes from across the UK.
Tamworth were well represented with 3 athletes competing in Pool 6, this was a mixed pool of Seniors, Under 20, Under 17, Under15 and Under 13 Men and Women. With a total of twenty athletes in Pool 6 it proved to be very competitive and a hard fought contest.
The Tamworth AC Athletes were Iona Crameri (U17), Siân Hubbard (U15) and Ruby Coldwell (U13). Coached by Adam Lyons and mentored by Elizabeth Edden, one of the best senior women’s Pole Vaulters in the UK, all achieved personal bests as did the all the athletes coached by Adam in Pool 6.

The large crowd enjoyed a fantastic competition lasting almost 3 hours with Siân Hubbard winning the Pool with a new personal best vault of 2.40m, Iona Crameri finishing second with a new personal best of 2.30m and Ruby Coldwell clearing 2.00m in her first ever competition.

The series now moves on to London in February before finishing in Cardiff in March. With the entire season to look forward to, greater heights and new records beckon for the Tamworth Athletes.
