Tamworth AC’s athletes delivered a spirited performance in the final Youth Development League (YDL) Upper Division fixture of the season at Charnwood AC. The squad battled hard across track and field, achieving several top-three finishes and narrowly missing out on a higher team placing by just a few points.

The team finished 5th on the day, only a handful of points adrift of 4th place, and secured a creditable 6th overall in the final league standings — a strong showing in a highly competitive division.

Jessica Salt showed great form on the track and in the field, clocking 61.2s for 3rd in the U20 Women’s 400m, and adding a 3rd place finish in the Discus (13.50m). Evie Caffrey continued her excellent season, claiming victory in the 1500m (5:18.1) and securing 2nd in the Shot Put (5.66m) and Discus (15.01m).

Ben Godber was back competing after a week away and contributed in the field once again for the U20 men, with 1st place in the Hammer (8.46m), 2nd in the Javelin (21.07m) and 3rd in the Discus (15.84m). Maksymilian Malec put a couple of great sprint performances recording times of 13.7s in the 100m and 27.7s in the 200m.

In the sprints, Lorelai Maxwell took 2nd in the U20 Women’s 100m (12.8s), with Tammy Powers close behind in 3rd in the 100m B race (14.2s) and 3rd in the 200m (28.9s).

In the U17 ranks, Anthony Tolley showed his versatility, racing to 6th in the 400m (60.3s), 2nd in the 1500m B race (5:03.0) and contributing to the winning 4x400m team. William Upton battled to 3rd in the 1500m A race (4:50.8) and placed 6th in the Discus (13.01m).

Sophie Godber secured 4th in the 100m B (14.5s) and 2nd in the 80m Hurdles (14.8s) to add more valuable points to the team total. Grace Hirst competed across multiple events, placing 6th in the 100m (13.9s), 4th in the 200m (28.9s) and 2nd in the 300m B race (49.9s). Holly Preston impressed in the 300m (46.7s, 4th) and Long Jump (3.98m, 3rd).

Middle-distance duo Annie Mulvey and Savannah Short fought hard in the 800m, placing 5th (2:56.1) and 5th (2:48.5) in the A and B races respectively.

In the relays, the 4x100m team of Tammy, Holly, Grace & Sophie took 3rd place in the U20 division with a time of 55.6s. The U20 4x400m mixed relay team of Jess, Evie, Anthony & Ben delivered one of the team’s standout results, storming home to victory in 4:06.5 — a brilliant collective effort.

Many thanks to all athletes and families for coming along, thanks to Jonathan Firth, Fiona Meldrum, Rob James, Melanie Woolley, & Lorraine Godber, for the help with officiating on the day.
