On a very wet Wednesday evening Tamworth hosted this SAN sponsored event for young athletes from Staffordshire. The meeting has a different format to other competitions in that if “A” and “B” athletes from the same Club come 1st and 2nd they receive the points for those positions.

Although the weather was dreadful, everyone stayed in good spirits to make the event a success.

For Tamworth AC, making their competition debuts were Sophia Smith and Layla-Hope Hughes, Sophia came 3rd in the under 11’s 75m, with Layla 4th in 12.5 and 12.7 secs, good scoring and the same girls came 2nd and 4th in the 150m in 26.3 and 26.7 secs. To finish the day Tamworth entered 3 teams in the girls 4 x 100m relay, finishing 2nd 3rd and 5th.

The Club would like to thank everyone who braved the awful weather, for the kids and parents and although they will not see this report, have to mention Bryan Mills from Tipton Harriers who produced and ran the team of qualified experienced Timekeeper’s and to Bob Hughes and Shaun Ainge from Cannock and Stafford who were Track and Field Referee and also persuaded some of their colleagues to come along and help. To our Track Judges Sharon Ward, Liz Neville and making his debut on the stand and loving every minute Richard Husselbee. Of course, our Field Judges, who still managed to keep all the Field Cards readable, To Gordon and Lorraine Densley, Matthew Hargreaves, Matt Evans, Dave Williams, Felicity Gray, Howard Bush, Catherine Pendlebury and Paul Tasker. To Matt Evans again, who arrived early to set up and stayed late to clear away along with Dave Williams. To Sam Husselbee for being on hand for any medical/first aid emergencies and of course Pat Wileman again here early to make sure everything ran smoothly catering wise. To Phil Owen and Ron Scholes our announcers who looked to be having fun all evening as well as making sure athletes were where they should be, when they should be. Finally, the family Godber, Andy for the wonderful job he made of recording, to Lorraine and Ben who made registration run smoothly in fairly difficult circumstances and assisted Andy. I understand Ben was also very helpful to the Track Judges. Everyone, thank you so much.
