Over 60 junior athletes from Tamworth AC and Royal Sutton Coldfield AC competed in the junior quadrathlon, which consisted of four events. For the 8-11 year olds this included a vortex throw, standing long jump, 75 metre sprint and 600 metre run, whereas for the 12-13 year olds it was a javelin throw, long jump, 100 metre sprint and 800 metre run. Everyone put in a great effort despite the cold and windy weather.
For the 8/9 girls category, Jessica Husselbee came first overall with 148 points after winning the 75m sprint and 600m run. Olivia Kidd and Georgia Ferris won the vortex throw and standing long jump respectively. Notable mentions include Evie Parks in the 600m and Holly George in the vortex throw both getting a close second place in those events, well done girls!
In the 8/9 boys category, Finley Aldridge-Cox won overall with 163 points, coming first in the vortex throw and 75m sprint. Kian Griffiths ran 2:19:08 in the 600m, taking the lead by a whole 7 seconds! Raylan Murray jumped a terrific 1.90m, which took him into first in the standing long jump. Notable mentions include Henry Rogers who showed strong performances in all events, coming third overall and Aidan Cooper who showed an impressive improvement in the 600m!
In the 10/11 girls category, it was a tough competition with a different winner for each event! Brodie Horler came first in the 75m sprint and won overall with 213 points. Ellie Lewis won the vortex throw with 27.24m, Relayla Murray jumped 1.96m in the standing long jump, and Jessica Spiby came first in the 600m running 2:05:00. A notable mention goes to Tilly Farmer who showed strong performances in all events coming third overall.
In the 10/11 boys category, Dylan O’Donnell came first overall, winning 3 out of the 4 events with 212 points and Alex Hall took the win in the 600m. Notable mentions include Freddie Burgess who achieved a close second place in the vortex throw with 29.29m and Dylan Thomas who showed strong performances in all events.
Finally, in the 12/13 girls category Isla Rogers won overall with 215 points and obtained an unofficial PB in the javelin. Sophie Godber put in strong performances for the long jump and 100m sprint, winning these events.
A big thank you to all of the volunteers and the academy coaches for helping the day to run smoothly. Also thank you to those who bought a raffle ticket, over £100 was raised from this, I hope the winners enjoyed their prizes!
