Vets league 27th April 2022 – Burton
The Midlands Veterans Track and Field League North division is where Tamworth Athletic club field athletes who are over 35 (masters or veterans) thrive at the club, particularly among the men, with a few more women coming through this year than in recent years.
This year Burton play host to 3 out of the 4 matches, which have different events at different matches according to age group. For more information on this go to the league website which gives the fixtures and the timetables. https://mvtfl.wordpress.com/
In the first match of the year, highlights were Colin Pleass taking 1st in the men’s 100m M70 category and Chris Horton taking maximum points also in the M40 Mile. In the field Greg Richards won the M40 javelin despite being injured.
The women’s side saw a return to action for Sarah Jemmett and an first vets league entry for Rebecca Hobbs, who both picked up second places for the Mile, (W50 and W35 respectively). Both then joined Neil Rudd, also a newbie, and Carlton McDonald in the league’s inaugural mixed 200m relay. Despite not getting the result we would have liked, it was great to see Tamworth ladies in a relay in the vets league. May this be a sign of things to come?
