YDL Upper Age Group 1 – Telford 24th April 2022

Event Report by Andy Godber:

Early in the year, but still sunny enough for me to get a sunburnt forehead! An unfortunately reduced Tamworth AC team take their place in a double-header match with 12 teams overall in Telford. Most teams were down on numbers, and the Tamworth athletes that were able to attend put on a good performance.

Under 20’s

Only 2 athletes but both performed strongly in their events. James Rachel ran in the combined 400m to finish second in the race but gain top points in the match for Tamworth in a time of 53.2s. He then followed up with a strong 200m with a time of 23.7s for second place. An excellent start to the outdoor season with more to come.

Arantxa Middleton headed back to the Midlands and ran 13.7s in the 100m for 2nd place and her fastest time for 2 years at the distance. She then helped out the team with 2nd place with a long jump of 3.46m and a PB discus throw of 13.27m for third place.

Under 17’s

Our bigger group of 3 athletes started with Ben Godber filling in with a long jump of 3.54m for 5th place, then a 3rd place in the discus of 9.49m. He then finally got to run his proper event at 4pm in the 800m, and after a very quick opening lap, Ben finished in 5th place with a time of 2:37.3s. Quicker than last season, but he hopes for quicker as he goes on this year.

Excellent performances by our Under 17 Ladies on the track with Brooke Burton winning her 100m in a time of 13.9s into a -3.7m/s headwind. She then went onto record 3rd place in the long jump with a distance of 3.78m. Lottie McLaren started her day with a 3rd place in the 300m with a time of 44.9s, and then stormed to victory in the combined 800m with a AAA grade 4 time of 2:26.0. Both ran fantastically and we are looking forward to seeing them progress this season.

Many thanks to all athletes and families for coming along, thanks to Rob James, Mel Woolley, and Deb Cash for the help with officiating as always.

Overall Tamworth finished 5th out of 6 clubs, and actually scored 2nd highest in points per athlete.
