We take a look at one of Tamworth AC’s bright young athletes who has been selected to represent Great Britain in the last year. This story is a little different to our usual spotlights. It is one in the sport of Tetrathlon, a multi-discipline variant of modern pentathlon in which athletes have to shoot a 4.5mm calibre pistol, run cross country, swim and ride a horse over challenging obstacles.
Chloe Sharman a talented Under-13 middle distance athlete for Tamworth AC and a serious contended in Tetrathlon. Chloe has won her last three Under-13 Tetrathlon competitions outright; smashing her personal best for the 1km cross country run with a time of 3min 31sec.
At her last event, Chloe was talent spotted and asked to join the GB Junior Girls International Team. This was quite a big leap for her with the swim, run and shoot distances further than she had experienced before. The competition was held at Moreton Morrell, Warwickshire, against another 127 competitors travelling from as far away as Canada & the USA. Chloe more than held her own; managing to secure the top pistol shoot of 1,000 points and the second best placing for the 1,500m cross country run in 5min 27sec; just missing out on 1st place by 2 seconds. She finished the 200m swim against the clock in 3 minutes.
On the second day, Chloe took ‘Crem’, her 14.2 hands pony, onto the cross country ride and together they had a terrific clear round over a very testing course. She was 5 seconds over the optimum time, incurring time faults, but all came good for her the end with an incredible individual 4th place overall in her first appearance for Great Britain.

Since then Chloe has won several more competitions outright and further improved her 1,500m cross country time, against the clock to 5minutes flat; impressive by any standard for an Under-13 Girl.
Chloe has performed well for Tamworth’s Junior Cross Country team; picking up the Athlete of the Month Award in November and competing for Staffordshire at the English Schools Championship. She now moves up to the Under-15 age group and we all wish her every success for the future.
