Tamworth AC athletes were in action at the UK CAU Inter-Counties Cross Country Championship on Saturday. All athletes had been selected by their home county associations; many based on their performances at their respective county championships in January, making the standard of competition extremely high. The famous venue at Prestwold Hall in Loughborough presented participants with the toughest of conditions, with deep sticky mud making the running extremely hard work.
Max Kent was first up representing Staffordshire in the 8km Under-20 Men’s event and battled round to finish in 142nd place with a time of 39:05.

Jessica Salt’s excellent season and a 4th place finish at the county championships earned her first Staffordshire vest in the Under-13 Girls team. Jessica who has been struggling with a calf niggle in recent weeks, gave it her all on the 3km course to take 220th place in a huge field of athletes with a time of 17 minutes.

Ben Edwards, despite a season disrupted with injury, made the cut for the Staffordshire Under-17 Men’s team. Ben worked hard to take 245th place with a time of 26:49 over a 6km course that saw a number of athletes drop out before reaching the finish line.

Natasha Lee took a very late call up from the reserves to line up for Staffordshire Under-15 Girls and finished the race in 266th place with a time of 21:57.
