Tamworth AC’s Adam Young brought home a silver medal from the European Masters Athletics Championships at the weekend. Competing in the Men’s 50 High Jump event, the current World Champion and joint British Record holder was always going to have to be at his best amongst a tough line-up of athletes.

Young made his opening jump at 1.67m and looked in great form as he made his way up to a clearance 1.76m without error; leaving just himself and Latvia’s Ugis Lasmanis to fight it out for the gold.
In a tense finale, both athletes made 1.79m at the third and final attempt, but Lasmanis turned up the pressure with a jump of 1.82m. Young responded by passing up to 1.85m after one unsuccessful attempt at 1.82m, going for the win. He came up some way short on the first attempt, before just glancing the bar with a trailing elbow on his final effort.
Afterwards Young said “I went for it big style today. I’m chuffed with Silver though and that was my best jumping for months”.
