The Tamworth AC Veteran team had an enjoyable time at Birchfield on Wednesday night, with plenty of action on the track and in the field.
Adam Young competed in five events. In the High Jump he cleared 1.80m; just 1cm off his own joint British Men’s 50 Record. His onlooking teammates held their breath as he attempted 1.82m to take the record outright, but it wasn’t to be this time as he narrowly shaved the bar. In the 200m, Adam ran 26.7secs to take maximum points, jumped 5.43m for first place in the long jump and threw 9.24 for 3rd in the V35 shot. He finished off the evening with 4th place in the M50 Discus with a throw of 24m.
Colin Pleass was in action in the M60 Javelin throwing 18.69m for 4th place and a new personal best. Back on the track Matt James competed in the M35 200m with a 29.49secs finish in 3rd place. Club Chairman Derek Bolton had a busy evening with 33.17secs in the 200m and 2:54 for 4th in the 800m.
The battle-weary Ben Evans and Howard Bush competed in both the 800m and 3,000m, which is always a tough ask. Both gave their all and came away with 2nd place in the M35 and M40 3,000m respectively.
Nicola Brady, Tamworth’s only female competitor on the night, showed everyone a clean pair of heels in the 200m; taking first place with a personal best time of 28.77sec. The next meeting of the Midlands Veterans League is at the Shobnall Leisure Complex in Burton on Wednesday 3rd July. Anyone wishing to compete please contact Howard Bush.
