Another great season of racing in the Burton and District Summer League drew to a close at the Tamworth 5 Mile earlier in the month; leaving just the awards to be handed out to the individual and team winners.
On Friday 28th September, athletes and representatives from the eight league clubs gathered at the Marston Social Club in Burton to celebrate the successes over the last five months.
Tamworth AC again did well in the individual categories. Ben Evans made it a clean sweep, winning the Men’s Veteran 40, Overall (best 5 results) and Complete Series (all 8 races) awards.
Howard Bush picked up second place in the Men’s Veteran 40 category, and daughter Charlotte crowned an excellent season claiming second in the Women’s Under-25s.
Derek Bolton was once again given special mention amongst those who had raced or marshalled at all eight races this season.
Both the Men’s and Women’s Team prizes were won by South Derbyshire Road Runners.
Tamworth AC Chairman Dave Williams reflecting on the season said “Overall we managed some great results from a team that relied on the older generation to score the points. Ben and Howard continue to maintain our reputation, and Charlotte gives us great hope for the future with her well-deserved result”
The next BDSL season will start again with the Run in the Forest 5 Mile; hosted by South Derbyshire Road Runners at Conkers on Sunday 7th April 2019.
