The ESAA National Championships 2016

This year in early July several athletes from Tamworth AC were chosen to represent their County at the ESAA National Championships.

The ESAA (English Schools Athletics Association) National Championships, staged each year, are the 4th largest athletics event in the World.

Organised entirely by volunteer teachers, the ESAA brings together the best athletes in each County in England to compete for the honour of being the best athlete in the Country at their event.

Entry to the event is by virtue of athletes being selected by County Team Managers to represent their County using qualifying standards in each event.

Nearly all the UK Olympic Athletics team members have featured in the ESAA Championships and it is considered to be a great honour to represent one’s County at the Championships

Isabelle Neville (Staffordshire) was in the Intermediate girls 300m Hurdles race. Isabelle came 3rd in her heat with a time of 46.57secs missing out on a place in the final.

Thomas Ainsworth (Staffordshire) was in the Senior Boys 400m race. He came 4th in his heat in 50.21secs missing out on entry to the final.

Daniel Cartwright (Staffordshire) was in the Junior Boys 100m race. He came 5th in his heat in 11.88secs denying him a place in the final.

Lucy Wheeler (Warwickshire) competed in the Junior Girls 100m. She came 5th in 13.1secs again missing out on the final.

Omolola Ogunnowo  (Warwickshire) was in the Intermediate Girls 300m. She came 3rd in her heat narrowly missing out on a final place.
