Tamworth youngsters contested the second meeting of this year’s 1st Division at Banbury on Sunday. The team have earned their place in the top Division and are keen to stay there. Tamworth finished in 6th place in both meetings and as 2 of the 8 teams will be relegated it is looking increasingly like that their place will be secured for 2026.
There is a very big difference in the number of girls available for the competition over the lads and in this league, all age groups and boys and girls performances are shown. Overall the girls finished 2nd in Sutton in May and 3rd on Sunday. We would not be able to maintain the status without the contribution of the lads available, certainly not their fault there are so many spaces on the team sheet.
Tamworth is very lucky to have so many under 15 girls at the moment, but does give Team Manager Matt Evans a big headache trying to be fair to all, while making sure the team is as strong as possible. Four under 15 girls agreed to be under 17’s for the day (allowed in this league) and Lucy Marsh, Ellie Lewis, Maggie Fulton-Pemberton and Billie Ciuffini all made vital contributions along with the actual 17’s, Lorelai Maxwell, Holly Preston, Lucy Hornby, Grace Hirst, Sophie Godber, Savannah Short and Annie Mulvey. The u17 girls were 3rd.
The under 15 girls were 2nd this time, 1st in May, with Brodie Horler, Emily Webb, Holly Hancock, Grace Thompson-Moore, Tiarna Russell, Rosa Farmer, Matilda Husselbee, Robyn Edwards, Evie Edmead and Freya Armitage. The girl’s day was completed by relay victory for Aurora Vickers, Tiarna, Emily and Brodie.
The under 13 girls team of Freya Draycott, Harriet Dyson, Charlotte Brian, Lacey Eaton, Lacie Beasley, Rosie Tolley, Marlei Bignot, Layla-Hope Hughes, Isabelle Turnbull, Jessica Husselbee and Frankie Smith were 5th , the girls improving with experience.
We only had two under 17/20 men available to compete and thanks goes to Anthony Tolley and Ben Godber for their efforts. Almost as short handed were the under 13 boys, Henry Rogers and Samson Chapangara both competed in three events and the only other lad was Felix Hickman, who’d only been to training twice.
The under 15 boys were better represented with some very noteworthy performances from Alexander Haywood, Lucas Lee, Alex Hall, Toby Douglas and Thomas and William Daniels-Barber.
The under 11’s have their own competition separate to the main score. For the girls we had Anabel Amankwah, Eden Farmer, Phoebe Dyson, Summar Bisel, Peppi-Rose Sweet and Izzy Jaques. For the boys Evan Darby, Malachi Smith, Oliver Preece, Olly Eaton and another debutant Harry Edwards. Their day finished with a mixed relay where Evan, Oliver, Anabel and Phoebe came through for 3rd place.
It was a very long day and Michelle Horler’s first experience of Track Judging, hope we haven’t put her off. Thanks to Michelle, our Timekeeper Jonathan Firth and the hard working Field team of Mel Woolley, Andy and Lorraine Godber and Dean Hancock, who certainly got more than his usual daily step quota!
I’m sure you’ll appreciate that I can’t include the individual performances as there are so many, but Matt will very soon put the results on the notice board. They will also soon be on the League Website.
