Tamworth AC Shine in the Sun at YDL Upper Match 1
Edmonscote Athletic Track, Leamington Spa, 27 April 2025
Tamworth AC’s Upper YDL squad made an excellent start to their League campaign on a hot and sunny day in Leamington including 6 athletes making their track debuts. The athletes tackled the heat with determination and produced a string of strong performances across both track and field events. Here’s a summary of how each Tamworth athlete performed in what proved to be a brilliant opening fixture for the club.

Will Upton (U17M)
Will put in a terrific run in the 1500m, finishing 5th in a time of 4:50.8 as the A runner, showing great promise for the season ahead knocking 16 seconds off his previous PB.
Anthony Tolley (U17M)
Anthony added valuable points on his track debut for Tamworth with a determined run, finishing 3rd in the 1500m B race with 4:54.0. He later joined the 4x400m M&W relay team, contributing to their impressive win.
Lorelai Maxwell (U17W)
A consistently strong performer, Lorelai finished 5th in the 100m (13.1s), 3rd in the 200m (26.9s) and a superb 2nd in the Long Jump (4.66m). She also helped the U20 Women’s 4x100m relay team secure 4th.
Grace Hirst (U17W)
Grace was on fine form, taking 2nd in both the 100m B race (13.9s) and the 200m B race (28.3s). She later claimed 1st in the High Jump (1.25m) and ran a strong 4x100m relay leg.
Isabel McIntosh (U17W)
Isabel made a good start to the year as she finished 6th in the 300m A race (48.0s), achieved 2nd in the Shot Put (7.37m PB), and was part of the 4x300m relay team, placing 3rd in 3:33.9.
Jessica Baines (U17W)
Jessica ran well to take 2nd place in the 300m B race with a massive PB (49.5s) and formed a vital part of the 4x300m relay squad that claimed 3rd place, showing no nerves as she stepped up an age group.
Savannah Short (U17W)
In her first track competition Savannah placed 4th in the 800m B race (2:57.8), 2nd in the Long Jump B with 3.63m, and ran the third leg of the 4x300m relay.
Annie Mulvey (U17W)
Annie showed great spirit in the heat, finishing 5th in the 800m A (2:56.9) and running in the 4x300m relay team to help them clinch 3rd place. She was unlucky in the long jump but will learn for next time.
Sophie Godber (U20W)
Sophie ran a strong first leg in the 4x100m relay team, which placed 4th, and had a busy day in the throws and hurdles, including a 6th in the Javelin with a PB (12.86m) and a 2nd in the 80m Hurdles (15.4s). She also ran the 100m as a guest with a time of 14.9s into a strong headwind.
Maksymilian Malec (U20M)
Competing in the sprints, Maksymilian clocked 14.4s in the 100m for 6th and great PB of 28.6s in the 200m for another 6th place finish, battling bravely against tough conditions.
Ben Godber (U20M)
A busy day for Ben, competing in no fewer than five events. He clocked a PB 55.2s for 6th in the 400m, and then switched to field events with a 1st place finish in the Hammer (9.67m) and Javelin (20.33m), as well as a 4th place in the Discus (11.88m). Benjamin also anchored the club’s 4x400m relay team to an excellent 1st place finish in 4:03.0 taking 10 seconds off the previous club record.
Tammy Powers (U20W)
Tammy had a strong outing on the track and in the field for her debut. She placed 5th in the 100m (14.4s), matched that with 5th in the 200m (29.2s), and achieved 4th in the Long Jump (3.89m). Tammy also took 3rd in the Javelin (11.52m) and helped the 4x100m relay team to a 4th place finish (53.3s).
Evie Caffrey (U20W)
A busy afternoon for Evie, who put in a gutsy 3rd place finish in the 1500m (5:36.9), before moving to the field where she secured 3rd in the Shot Put (5.57m) and 4th in the Discus (12.11m). She was also part of the victorious 4x400m relay squad.
Chloe Purkis (U20W)
Chloe made a great contribution to the team with 5th place in the 200m (29.4s) and a strong 2nd in the High Jump (1.40m).
Jessica Salt (U20W)
After her exertions in the London Mini-Marathon the day before, only a cameo performance for Jess with an outstanding first leg in the mixed 4x400m, but great to be part of the record-breaking team again.
