Upper Match 2 25/05/2025

Moorways Stadium, Derby – 25 May 2025

Tamworth AC’s U17/U20 athletes put in a spirited and determined display at the second Upper Youth Development League (YDL) fixture of the season. On a blustery day where unpredictable headwinds made conditions tough for both track and field athletes, the team finished a narrow 6th place overall, missing out on 5th by just one single point.

Despite the testing conditions, there were standout performances and personal achievements across the age groups as the athletes adapted superbly to the challenges.

Athlete Highlights

Jessica Salt continued her excellent form with a commanding victory in the U20 Women’s 800m, clocking 2:22.13.

Evie Caffrey had a superb day too, winning the 3000m (12:06.97), and placing 4th in both the Shot Put (4.88m) and Discus (12.77m).

Lorelai Maxwell was again a key scorer, taking 3rd in the U20 Women’s 100m (12.82s), 4th in the U17 Women’s 200m (26.78s), and 2nd in the U17 Women’s Long Jump (4.71m).

Tammy Powers secured valuable points with 5th in both the U20 100m (14.16s) and 200m (28.86s), 4th in Long Jump (3.74m), and an impressive 2nd place finish in the Javelin (12.62m).

Sophie Godber claimed a fantastic 1st place in the U17 80m Hurdles (14.57s), alongside 7th in the 100m (14.57s) and 4th in Javelin (12.18m).

Lucy Hornby was 2nd in the U17 1500m Steeplechase (6:52.48) and added a 4th in Shot Put (6.65m).

Jessica Baines finished showed great form to claim 4th in both the U17 300m (50.41s) and Discus (11.28m), and was great to see her as part of the team.

In distance events, Anthony Tolley placed 2nd in the U17 Men’s 3000m (11:03.01) and 2nd in Discus (11.63m), while teammate William Upton came 5th in the same 3000m (10:55.95) and 3rd in Discus (13.05m).

Benjamin Godber showed his versatility with a solid 800m (2:09.72, 5th), 5th in the Discus (14.55m), and victory in the Hammer (7.80m). It was good to see Will Flemming back in the team for his last year as an U20 athlete with 6th place in the 400m with a time of 55.48s.

Annie Mulvey and Savannah Short battled bravely through the blustery conditions in the 800m, finishing 5th (2:55.15) and 4th (2:56.24) respectively. Annie also picked up 3rd place in the B Shot Put, and Savannah picked up 4th place in the Long Jump as part of a push to gain extra points for the club.
