Tamworth Senior team travelled to South Wales for the 2nd full league meeting for 2024. Although the journey took 2 hours, the Satnav took us through very pleasant countryside to arrive at very pleasant venue on a day when, for 2024 the weather was almost perfect.
Star of the day had to be Isla Crameri who cleared 3.40m to win the Pole Vault, then took a different pole to attempt a PB of 3.55m, only for the pole to shatter leaving her prone on the bed with Mum Fiona rushing over to check on her. Luckily, if you can call that happening lucky she was not seriously hurt. Not surprising she didn’t make any further attempts. Isla had already competed in the long jump recording 4.39m she then went on to record a PB in the triple jump winning with a leap of 10.48m. Finished her day in the 100m and taking a leg of the 4 x 100m relay.
Not so fortunate with injury was Gavin Showell, making his first appearance for the Club in 5 years. Gavin had already contested the Hammer and the Shot and recorded a distance with his first long jump, only to tear his achilles on the run up for his second jump. He had to helped from the track and saw his doctor on Monday. Please get well soon Gav.
Alex Berrow had a really good day coming 2nd in the Hammer with a throw of 44.78m, winning the Shot with an impressive 12.21m coming 4th in the Discus and 2nd in the “B” Javelin. Tom Ainsworth won the 400m by a distance in 48.80 secs, gave Emily Findlater a good lead on the final leg of an exiting 400m mixed relay, following impressive legs from Jolyon Leavesley and Holly Preston. Tom also took a leg of the sprint relay. Jolyon had a busy day running 1:59.07 in the 800m, finishing 4th in the “B” 1500m and he also took a leg of the sprint relay. Emily had already won the “C” 400m, ran 3000m, closely followed by the sprint relay, may have needed a sleep on the way home! Holly had finished 4th in the “B” Long Jump, 4th in the “B” 400m and was our only lady High Jumper. The Godber family had a busy day, as well as Mum and Dad officiating, Ben cleared 1.55m in the High Jump came 3rd in the “B” 800m ran the 100m and took legs of both relays. Sophie who was full of cold, still ran the 100m and sprint relay and still agreed last minute as the last girl standing to finish the “B” 400m mixed relay, to be greeted by a big hug from her brother.
Greg Richards came 2nd in the Javelin with a throw of 40.35m and came 3rd in the “B” Discus and Reinis Baltins set a new PB of 4:10.88 in the 1500m. Back to the Pole Vault, Dave Williams cleared 2.30m for 3rd place and daughter Sarah jumped 2.40m to win the “B” for the Ladies. Sarah also threw Shot and Discus and finally agreed under pressure from Gordon to take a leg of the 400m relay. Jessica Salt only just back off holiday, ran 200m for the first time came 3rd in the 400m in 63.30 secs and took a leg of the sprint relay. Finally we have our wounded ladies, Celia Wood making a weekend of it, threw Javelin, disappointed she could only do a standing throw and Kat Kotlarzewski who desperately wanted to run, but decided she couldn’t so she threw Shot, Javelin and Discus.
Thanks again for all who attended and to our Officials Mel Woolley, Andy & Lorraine Godber, Jonathan Salt and our Timekeeper Fiona.
