On yet another warm summer evening, Tamworth AC endurance athletes lined up for the sixth instalment of the Burton and District Summer League; the Worthington 5 Mile, hosted by Ivanhoe Runners.

The relatively flat ‘out-and-back’ course made for a fast start, with the leaders breaking away early. Ben Evans led the Tamworth line, but after such a fantastic start to his season, was clearly affected by recent injury setbacks and some way off his best form. Evans did however still manage a respectable fourth place, picking up the men’s veterans prize with a time of 28:44.

Next through the finish line was Dave Williams, back in the team after missing the Gate Gallop, with a time of 31:50. Charlotte Bush continued making a name for herself, with the youngster taking yet another ladies’ under-20 win and crossing the line in 33:55.

Derek Bolton was next to finish with a time of 35:02, and Nigel Fisher completed the line-up for Tamworth with 42:36.

Next up in the Burton and District Summer League will be the Burton 10k, hosted by Hatton Darts on Sunday 12th August.
